The sun cast a warm glow over the city of Udaipur as the TAAVDO Challenge 2023 commenced. Little did I know that this event would become a turning point in my relationship with my daughter, Neeharika, fondly called ‘Senior Nee.’ As an avid cyclist, I had shared my love for the sport with her over the years, but little did I expect the incredible journey that lay ahead.
At the age of 13, Neeharika had already displayed an impressive determination and zeal for cycling. She had always been eager to join me on my rides, steadily building her skills and endurance. When she expressed her desire to participate in the TAAVDO Challenge, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and trepidation. I wondered if she was ready for the rigors of such a demanding event. However, her enthusiasm and persistence convinced me to embark on this extraordinary journey together.
As the challenge unfolded, Neeharika surpassed all expectations. Pedaling with an unwavering spirit, she set her sights on an ambitious goal – to conquer the 200-kilometer milestone in a single day. For any cyclist, this was an incredible feat, let alone for someone who had recently begun their cycling journey. As a proud father, I was astonished by her determination and strength.
Our journey around Fatehsagar Lake was filled with highs and lows. The looping nature of the route presented its own set of challenges, but we tackled each lap with unwavering resolve. Together, we embraced the early mornings, rising at 5 AM to embark on our cycling adventures. Neeharika’s dedication was palpable as she eagerly asked about our plans for the day, which route we would take, and what challenges lay ahead.
Throughout the TAAVDO Challenge, we celebrated incremental milestones, pushing ourselves to reach new heights. The conversations we shared during our rides revolved around the anticipation of crossing the 100-kilometer mark. Neeharika’s eagerness to take on 100+ kilometers each day was infectious, but as her father, I felt the need to ensure her comfort and safety. I encouraged her to be patient, assuring her that her time would come once she grew more comfortable in the saddle. Her strength and unwavering determination left me in awe.
We navigated the challenge together, often altering our routes to keep the experience fresh and enjoyable. Neeharika’s resilience was put to the test when she faced a few falls along the way. With scraped elbows and a few tears shed, she picked herself up and continued pedaling with unwavering resolve. Her never-give-up attitude and perseverance were an inspiration to all.
Beyond the physical accomplishments, this cycling journey forged an unbreakable bond between us. As father and daughter, we cherished the moments shared on the road. The conversations flowed effortlessly, filled with laughter, dreams, and aspirations. The simple act of cycling became a catalyst for building a friendship that extended beyond the confines of a parent-child relationship.
Neeharika’s thirst for knowledge and understanding was evident as she eagerly absorbed the lessons I imparted during our rides. We discussed safety measures, the importance of crossing roads with a calm mind, and the significance of being mindful cyclists. Her receptiveness and quick learning left me immensely proud, knowing that I had passed on valuable life skills to my daughter.
Our journey would not have been the same without the incredible support of the Udaipur Cycling Club (UCC) community. Each day, we would gather at our beloved meeting spot, Sunil Tea, where we found encouragement, guidance, and camaraderie. The friendships we formed within the cycling community added an extra layer of joy and motivation to our rides. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to individuals like Vidhya, Nikhil, Divya, Our Chief Nitesh, PL Maroo Sir, KJ Boss, and Rekha Bhabhi for their unwavering support and love for Nee.
As the month of June drew to a close, Neeharika’s accomplishments stood tall and proud. Not only did she cycle an impressive total distance of 1,161 kilometers, but she also became the youngest participant in the TAAVDO Challenge to cover such a remarkable distance within a single month. Her endurance, strength, and determination had set a shining example for others to follow.
As a father, I find myself overwhelmed with emotions as I reflect on this extraordinary journey. The TAAVDO Challenge not only revealed the incredible capabilities of my daughter but also brought us closer together as a family. It strengthened our bond, created lasting memories, and instilled in us the belief that anything is possible with dedication and perseverance.

You have shown us that age is no barrier to greatness and that dreams can be transformed into reality through hard work and passion.
