The OOTY Ultra Marathon 2023 was truly an experience like no other. As a participant in the 90km category, I can say with confidence that this race was one of the toughest and most challenging that I have ever faced.

The race started off with over 1200 runners from 22 states and 4 countries, all eagerly ready to take on the daunting challenge that lay ahead. From the very beginning, it was clear that this was not going to be an easy task. The elevation was relentless, and the constant uphill climb made it difficult to keep up the pace. But as the saying goes, “if you can take it, you can make it”, and that’s exactly what we did.

Running for 90km with a continuing elevation of 8370 ft was no easy feat. The last 15km leg was especially grueling, as all we could do was push ourselves to climb higher and higher up the hill, even as exhaustion set in. But every drop of sweat was a testament to the hard work that we had put in for months on end, and every step brought us closer to achieving what seemed impossible.

Despite the challenges, there were also moments of pure joy and exhilaration. The beautiful scenery and the support from fellow runners and spectators alike kept us going, and the feeling of crossing the finish line was truly indescribable. As I finished 5th with a chip timing of 11 hours and 36 minutes, I couldn’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and pride.

Of course, I could not have done this alone. I owe plenty of thanks to my better half, who has always been there to support me, as well as to my daughter and son-in-law who participated in the 15km run to cheer me on. I am also grateful to my fellow Mewari runners, family, friends, and well-wishers who boosted my morale and kept me in their prayers throughout the race.

Furthermore, the organizers of the OOTY Ultra Marathon, Kay Fit’s Mr. Kannan and his entire crew, deserve a special mention for their excellent arrangements. From start to finish, everything was so well-organized, with great medical support, hydration, and security on the roads. The cheering from the public also added to the exhilarating experience, making this a race that I will never forget.

For those who aspire to follow their dreams and achieve the seemingly impossible, I can say with confidence that it is possible. It takes hard work, dedication, and a belief in oneself, but the feeling of completing the challenge is truly unparalleled. So, push yourself, believe in yourself, and who knows, maybe you too can accomplish something great, just like I did in the OOTY Ultra Marathon 2023.
